In fact, there are lots of resources available that teach about the importance of EDIA in research practices, and in communities. But just as a refresher, let\u2019s break down the definitions as they appear according to the American Psychological Association:\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">\"[pb_glossary id=\"153\"]<strong>Equity<\/strong> [\/pb_glossary] involves providing resources according to need, to help diverse populations achieve their highest state of health and other functioning.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">[pb_glossary id=\"154\"]<strong>Diversity<\/strong> [\/pb_glossary] refers to the representation or composition of various social identity groups in a work group, organization, or community.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">[pb_glossary id=\"155\"]<strong>Inclusion<\/strong> [\/pb_glossary] strives for an environment that offers affirmation, celebration, and appreciation of different approaches, styles, perspectives, and experiences...\"<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: right;padding-left: 40px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.library.torontomu.ca\/accessibledigitalsurveyresearch\/back-matter\/references#APA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(American Psychological Association, 2021)<\/a><\/p>\r\nWhile these are very well-rounded descriptions of EDI, the description provided by the here is missing the \u201cA\u201d part of our EDIA principles. Often, EDIA is shortened into EDI, for the sake of conciseness, and assumes that accessibility is intrinsic in equity, diversity, and inclusion. While this works for general frameworks, we believe it is important that as a part of researcher training, we emphasize the importance of accessibility as a principle which guides research.\r\n\r\n<span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">We can use the United Nations\u2019 definition of [pb_glossary id=\"192\"]<strong>accessibility<\/strong>[\/pb_glossary], which is the intentional \u201cdesign of products, devices, services or environments so as to be usable by persons with <\/span>or without disabilities, and includes information and communications\u2026\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.library.torontomu.ca\/accessibledigitalsurveyresearch\/back-matter\/references#UN, 2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(United Nations, 2021)<\/a>.
