This means that you must include a statement that gives credit to, or attributes, the creator of the work from whom you have borrowed, whether it\u2019s text, an image, a video, or other item. If you have altered the work in any way, indicate that in your attribution statement.\r\n

Citation and Attribution: Is there a difference?<\/h4>\r\n\u201cCitation\u201d and \u201cattribution\u201d are often used as synonyms, but they mean two different things.\r\n\r\nCitation<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>is a scholarly practice for tracking the ideological underpinnings of a work, usually referencing sources like published books, articles, government documents, primary sources, etc. If you are creating an\u00a0<\/span>adaptation<\/strong>, we suggest that you\u00a0follow the citation style (APA, MLA, or Chicago, etc.) used by the original author to maintain consistency throughout the open textbook.<\/span>\r\n\r\nAttribution<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>is about crediting a copyright holder according to the terms of a copyright license, usually crediting artistic works like music, fiction, video, and photography.\r\n\r\nAdapted from:\u00a0<\/span>Cite & Attribute Your Source<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>from\u00a0<\/span>Open.Michigan<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and used under a\u00a0<\/span>CC-BY 3.0<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>license.\r\n\r\n<\/div>\r\nAs far as how and where to place attribution statements for text or media taken from another source or sources, best practices state that you should place them at the bottom of each affected web page. Clearly mark all of these with the heading: \u201cAttributions.\u201d Several attribution statements can be listed under this heading. Here are a few examples.\r\n
