How many of us here have heard of the term \u201cground <\/span><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">rules\u201d?\u201d\r\n<\/span><em><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">(<strong>Facilitator #1<\/strong> acknowledges participants\u2019 familiarity and unfamiliarity with the term \u201cground rules.\u201d)<\/span><\/em><\/li>\r\n \t<li><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\"><strong>Facilitator #1 says,<\/strong> \u201cIn simple terms, ground rules are rules that we all agree upon and will be used to guide <\/span><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">how we interact with each other throughout the training and how we relate to each other between training <\/span><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">sessions. Based on your previous group experience, I will invite you to share ground rules that you feel are <\/span><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">important and useful to support us to function as a group.\r\n<\/span><em><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">(<strong>Facilitator #2<\/strong> writes down participants\u2019 suggestions of ground rules on flipchart paper. <strong>Facilitator #1<\/strong> clarifies <\/span><span style=\"text-align: initial;font-size: 1em\">with participants what they mean if they name one or two words as a ground rule. An example of an \u201cI\u201d statement is: \u2018I feel that most Asian children have lost their connections to their parents\u2019 culture\u2019.\u201d<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Punctuality:<\/strong>\r\n<strong>Facilitator says,<\/strong> \u201cSince our goal is to learn together as a group within a limited amount of time, what are your thoughts on punctuality?\u201d\r\n[After participants defi ne punctuality, <strong>Facilitator #2<\/strong> summarizes on flipchart \u2013 \u201cPunctuality: arriving on time, return from lunch and breaks on time.\u201d]<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Take-Home Activities:<\/strong>\r\n<strong>Facilitator says,<\/strong> \u201cAn important component of our training is homework or take-home activities between the training sessions. This includes some additional self-refl ection and integrating some of the skills and practices we learn into your daily activities. May we invite everyone to make a commitment to doing these take-home activities?\u201d<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Absence:<\/strong>\r\n<strong>Facilitator says,<\/strong> \u201cThe CHAMPs-In-Action training involves a lot of structured experiential group learning activities on interconnected topics. We ask that you try your best to attend all the sessions in order to get the maximum benefi t from the training.
