the sweetness of his voice\r\nThat made my lonely heart rejoice.\r\nIt all comes back so vividly,\r\nThe comfort that he brought to me;\r\nThe ray of hope, the pure pure joy\r\nHe gave a poor forsaken boy;\r\nIn walk or talk his tender care,\r\nHis deep concern for my welfare.\r\nHis comin' filled the larger part\r\nOf de great void made in my heart\r\nWhen on dat cruel awful day\r\nMy faithful Bennie went away.\r\n\r\n'Tis not de way o' dis ya wul'\r\nDat any miserable soul\r\nShould know a little lastin' peace,\r\nShould taste endurin' happiness.\r\nDe harmless tabby o' de house\r\nPlays kindly wid de frightened mouse,\r\nTill, when it nearly loses dread,\r\nGood Lard!
