\nAn begin count de date
\nFe when de pod fe shed.[11]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n

Me watch de vine dem grow,
\nS’er[12]<\/sup><\/a> t’row dung a de root:
\nCrop time look fe me slow,
\nDe bud tek long fe shoot.<\/p>\n

But so de day did come,
\nI ‘crub de bu’n-pan bright,
\nAn’ tu’n down ‘pon it[13]<\/sup><\/a> from
\nDe marnin’ till de night.<\/p>\n

An’ Lard I me belly swell,
\nNo ’cause de peas no good,
\nBut me be’n tek[14]<\/sup><\/a> a ‘pell
\nMo’ dan a giant would.<\/p>\n

Yet eben after dat
\nMe nyam[15]<\/sup><\/a> it wid a will,
\n‘Causen it mek me fat;
\nSo I wi’ lub it still.<\/p>\n
