In Muskoka<\/h2>\r\nLichens of green and grey on every side;\r\nAnd green and grey the rocks beneath our feet;\r\nAbove our heads the canvas stretching wide;\r\nAnd over all, enchantment rare and sweet.\r\n\r\nFair Rosseau slumbers in an atmosphere\r\nThat kisses her to passionless soft dreams.\r\nO! joy of living we have found thee here,\r\nAnd life lacks nothing, so complete it seems.\r\n\r\nThe velvet air, stirred by some elfin wings,\r\nComes swinging up the waters and then stills\r\nIts voice so low that floating by it sings\r\nLike distant harps among the distant hills.\r\n\r\nAcross the lake the rugged islands lie,\r\nFir-crowned and grim; and further in the view\r\nSome shadows seeming swung \u2018twixt cloud and sky,\r\nAre countless shores, a symphony of blue.\r\n\r\nSome northern sorceress, when day is done,\r\nHovers where cliffs uplift their gaunt grey steeps,\r\nBewitching to vermilion Rosseau\u2019s sun,\r\nThat in a liquid mass of rubies sleeps.\r\n\r\nThe scent of burning leaves, the camp-fire\u2019s blaze,\r\nThe great logs cracking in the brilliant flame,\r\nThe groups grotesque, on which the firelight plays,\r\nAre pictures which Muskoka twilights frame.\r\n\r\nAnd Night, star-crested, wanders up the mere\r\nWith opiates for idleness to quaff,\r\nAnd while she ministers, far off I hear\r\nThe owl\u2019s uncanny cry, the wild loon\u2019s laugh.","rendered":"
