singing\r\nWhen I move.\r\n\r\nOn the water\u2019s idle pillow\r\nSleeps the overhanging willow,\r\nGreen and cool;\r\nWhere the rushes lift their burnished\r\nOval heads from out the tarnished\r\nEmerald pool.\r\n\r\nWhere the very silence slumbers,\r\nWater lilies grow in numbers,\r\nPure and pale;\r\nAll the morning they have rested,\r\nAmber crowned, and pearly crested,\r\nFair and frail.\r\n\r\nHere, impossible romances,\r\nIndefinable sweet fancies,\r\nCluster round;\r\nBut they do not mar the sweetness\r\nOf this still September fleetness\r\nWith a sound.\r\n\r\nI can scarce discern the meeting\r\nOf the shore and stream retreating,\r\nSo remote;\r\nFor the laggard river, dozing,\r\nOnly wakes from its reposing\r\nWhere I float.\r\n\r\nWhere the river mists are rising,\r\nAll the foliage baptizing\r\nWith their spray;\r\nThere the sun gleams far and faintly,\r\nWith a shadow soft and saintly,\r\nIn its ray.\r\n\r\nAnd the perfume of some burning\r\nFar-off brushwood, ever turning\r\nTo exhale\r\nAll its smoky fragrance dying,\r\nIn the arms of evening lying,\r\nWhere I sail.\r\n\r\nMy canoe is growing lazy,\r\nIn the atmosphere so hazy,\r\nWhile I
