You can share it with your board members before the meeting so that they have time to think about the questions and then set aside some time in the meeting to discuss the results of the assessment. We have included a debrief resource for use by the facilitator after the board has completed the assessment. You can find this tool in <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.library.ryerson.ca\/inclusiveleadership\/back-matter\/appendix-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Discussion Tool to Assess Inclusivity (Appendix 3).<\/a>\r\n\r\nOnce you have completed your discussion based on the assessment tool in Appendix 2, you may be interested in further assessment or similar resources.\u00a0 Another assessment tool is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cvent.com\/events\/diversity-inclusion-and-equity-assessment\/event-summary-f9ccd2c0f4404e6eb80804c0d81f8181.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Diversity inclusion and equity assessment tool<\/a>.\r\n<h2><strong>STEP #3:\u00a0 DEVELOP INCLUSIVE GOVERNANCE POLICIES AND PRACTICES\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h2>\r\nNow that you have had some important conversations with your board, the next step is to focus on your current and future governance board policies\r\n\r\n<strong>Determine if you have a board diversity policy or a board diversity and inclusion policy. <\/strong>\r\n\r\nIf you have such a policy, form a committee to:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Review the current board diversity policy<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Recruit new board members for the committee, ensuring diversity<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensure that board orientation and ongoing development needs are met<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensure the committee has terms of reference, review sample format, <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.library.ryerson.ca\/inclusiveleadership\/back-matter\/appendix-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Appendix 4<\/a>, and sample roles and responsibilities in <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.library.ryerson.ca\/inclusiveleadership\/back-matter\/appendix-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Appendix 5<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Evaluate how the policy is working and changes that have taken place within the board since its inception. Were these changes positive? Were they expected?<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Review and make recommendations to the board about:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>changes to board composition, outreach and recruitment<\/li>\r\n \t<li>board size, structures, policies and procedures<\/li>\r\n \t<li>by-law amendments and board attendance<\/li>\r\n \t<li>changes\/additions to the policy, such as new language about equity and inclusion<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>Determine if you have a board recruitment policy. <\/strong>\r\n\r\nIf you have such a policy, form a committee to:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Review your recruitment and selection processes for new board members in the context of your conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion.\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Is there any policy or practice you would change?<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Is there any process you would change to make board recruitment more welcoming to potential members?<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ask newer board members about their experience of recruitment. Choose one or two areas to focus on over the next quarter, such as Incorporating Practices of Universal Design in <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.library.ryerson.ca\/inclusiveleadership\/part\/strategies-to-build-a-culture-of-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chapter 4<\/a>.\r\n\r\nUse the resource we have developed in <a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.library.ryerson.ca\/inclusiveleadership\/back-matter\/appendix-9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Appendix 9<\/a>, Discussion Questions on Developing an Inclusive Culture.\r\n\r\nBased on your response to the discussion questions, develop an action plan that includes ways to consult and connect with people from the priority groups.\r\n\r\nCreate short and long-term goals and establish an evaluation plan that involves continuous improvement for inclusion.
