\r\n\r\n\"The\r\n\r\nThe United Nations<\/a> (UN) uses the Human Development Index (HDI) to evaluate countries in terms of the well-being of their citizens. Before the creation of the HDI, a country\u2019s level of development was typically measured using economic statistics, particularly gross national income (GNI). The UN believed that economic measures alone were inadequate for assessing development because they did not always reflect the quality of life of a country\u2019s average citizens.
