They do this by co-ordinating and supervising the stage crew, ensuring orderly and accurate scene changes and turn-arounds. The <strong>HEAD STAGE CARPENTER <\/strong>is considered, in most senses, the <strong>CREW CHIEF<\/strong>, and is responsible for all work that happens <strong><em>on-deck<\/em><\/strong>, including venue-related maintenance.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"import-Normal\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt;margin-right: 24.8pt\">The responsibilities of the <strong>HEAD STAGE CARPENTER, <\/strong>in addition to those of a <strong>HEAD OF DEPARTMENT<\/strong>, shall include but not be limited to:<\/p>\r\n<strong>GENERAL<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Determines the methods, materials and hardware to be used in the installation of production stage equipment, scenic elements or props, in consultation with the <strong>DESIGNER, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, STAGE MANAGER, <\/strong>various <strong>HEADS OF DEPARTMENT,<\/strong> and Resident Staff; NOTE drops and drapery are considered scenic elements<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Determines with the <strong>TECHNICAL DIRECTOR <\/strong>and other <strong>HEADS OF DEPARTMENT <\/strong>who is responsible for \u201ccross-over pieces\u201d (items that are neither sets nor props)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Liaises frequently with the <strong>HEAD SCENIC CARPENTER <\/strong>and other <strong>HEADS OF DEPARTMENT<\/strong>, especially of Props, Electrics and Flys, to co-ordinate scenic construction, installation issues, and delivery times<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Works closely with the <strong>DESIGNER, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR <\/strong>and <strong>HEAD<\/strong> <strong>SCENIC CARPENTER <\/strong>to ensure the prioritized and timely delivery of all scenic component<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Inspects the venue prior to load-in and, with the <strong>TECHNICAL DIRECTOR <\/strong>and Resident staff, documents the condition of the space and storage areas<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures all venue measurements are correct and documents corrections prior to starting construction<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Assists the <strong>HEAD FLYMAN <\/strong>in preparing the stage for set-up by moving borders and legs to necessary positions and removing and storing unused soft goods<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Arranges for, and stocks, the on-deck tool chest\/road box, to be used during set-ups and strikes<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Co-ordinates the installation and set-up of all scenic elements, including drapery, and participates actively in this process, where required<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Co-ordinates the construction of, or repair to, other venue-related projects as required<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Considers the use of the piece on-stage, and is aware of all blocking on or around the piece; reinforces or otherwise modifies the piece for specific actor use<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Works closely with the <strong>TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, STAGE MANAGER<\/strong>, and <strong>DESIGNER <\/strong>to ensure the efficient organization of set changes, set piece movement and set\/prop storage<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Supervises the stage crew at all cuing sessions, Technical and Dress Rehearsals, shows and strike<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that the stage is always safe for actors during rehearsals<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Double checks and confirms with the <strong>STAGE MANAGER <\/strong>that all scenic elements and equipment are properly preset prior to curtain; makes necessary changes or adjustments to ensure same<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Participates, with the <strong>TECHNICAL DIRECTOR<\/strong>, in the planning, co-ordination and execution of the strike<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Restores wall, floors and other materials to pre-show condition after the production<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that all stock scenery pieces are returned to storage in a good and safe condition<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>ADMINISTRATION AND SCHEDULING<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Contributes to the creation of a detailed WEEKLY AND DAILY SCHEDULE, produced by the <strong>PRODUCTION MANAGER<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Contributes to the staffing and delegation of duties for the running crew, in co-operation with the <strong>PRODUCTION MANAGER <\/strong>and <strong>TECHNICAL<\/strong> <strong>DIRECTOR<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures each crew member has a written list of their specific show duties and set-change movements; ensures that the <strong>TECHNICAL DIRECTOR <\/strong>and <strong>STAGE MANAGER <\/strong>have copies of these <strong><em>tracks<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Attends all production meetings and organizes department meetings as required<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"import-BodyText\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt;margin-right: 29.4pt\">This information is intended as a guideline only.
