This means having a working knowledge of various potential physical and chemical hazards (inflammability, corrosion, and toxicity), types of paints, dyes, adhesives, solvents and sealers and standard methods of application for the theatre.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"import-Normal\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt; margin-right: 7pt;\">The responsibilities of the <strong>HEAD PAINTER<\/strong>, in addition to those of a <strong>HEAD OF DEPARTMENT, <\/strong>may include, but not be limited to:<\/p>\r\n<strong>GENERAL<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Establishes with the <strong>DESIGNER, PRODUCTION MANAGER AND<\/strong> <strong>TECHNICAL DIRECTOR <\/strong>all finishes to be used<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Maintains a clean and orderly paint shop, with all paints clearly labelled.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Executes samples as required by the <strong>DESIGNER.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Researches paint detailing patterns to complete the elevations supplied by the <strong>DESIGNER.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Lays out and cuts stencils.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Co-ordinates and executes, with the <strong>PAINTERS<\/strong>, the complete paint treatment for the production<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Paints other venue related projects, as required<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Restores walls, floors and other materials to pre-show condition, as required<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Attends technical and dress rehearsals to check finishes and performance (ie: light reaction, abrasion\/abuse, detail).<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Builds a touch-up kit for on-set repairs.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Cleans all mixing buckets, brushes and equipment and organizes the paint shop at the completion of the project, to be ready for the next user; left-over mixed paints shall be clearly labelled and properly stored or disposed of left-over stock will be returned to storage<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>ADMINISTRATION AND SCHEDULING<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Researches and creates a paint and equipment order, in conjunction with the <strong>RESIDENT SHOP<\/strong> <strong>SUPERVISOR.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Contributes to the creation of a detailed WEEKLY and DAILY SCHEDULE produced by the <strong>PRODUCTION MANAGER<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Attends all production meetings, and organizes department meetings as required<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>SAFETY<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that work is carried out in a safe manner, paying special attention to the use of respirators, gloves, and WHMIS MATERIAL DATA SAFETY SHEETS<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Compiles, where possible, a record of WHMIS MATERIAL DATA SAFETY SHEETS referencing materials used<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that safety rules are observed and safety equipment is correctly used by all crew members.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Posts warnings, as appropriate, around dangerous materials or processes including \"Wet Paint\" signs.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"import-BodyText\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt; margin-right: 29.4pt;\">This information is intended as a guideline only.
