When assigned to a call, they report to the <strong>HOUSE HEAD <\/strong>for daily work direction. However, as the <strong>PRODUCTION MANAGER <\/strong>is still responsible for staffing non-unionized departments, some <strong>CREW MEMBERS <\/strong>and <strong>PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS <\/strong>and <strong>ASSISTANTS <\/strong>may find themselves doing <strong><em>BOTH <\/em><\/strong>union and non-union work.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"import-BodyText\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt; margin-right: 8.050000000000001pt;\">These duties may include construction, assembly, transportation, installation, set-up, clean-up, operation, and strike of any production element whatsoever. Since it is difficult to predict the workload for a given production before staffing is complete, a <strong>CREW MEMBER or PRODUCTION ASSISTANT <\/strong>and <strong>ASSISTANTS <\/strong>may be assigned to assist in departments other than the one to which they were originally assigned.<\/p>\r\n<strong>Notes for Assistants:<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>The job will vary in scope and scale show to show and supervisor to supervisor<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Your job is as assigned by your supervisor<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Learn the job description of your Head to better under what they are working to complete<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"import-BodyText\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt;\">General areas of responsibility shall include but not be limited to:<\/p>\r\n<strong>PRIOR TO A CALL<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Reads the script<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Checks the callboard three times a day<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Arrives on time to a posted call, prepared to work; is permitted to be absent from a call only after completing a PERMISSION TO BE ABSENT form<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Arrives to a call with all of the personal safety equipment and tools necessary for the job, as prescribed by the <strong>HEAD OF DEPARTMENT<\/strong>; NOTE: Failure to arrive at a call with the appropriate safety equipment or tools may result in dismissal from the call<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"import-BodyText\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt; margin-right: 29.4pt;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: the list on the daily schedule is a courtesy and all tools needed will not always be listed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>recognizes the need to present a disciplined and positive work ethic; recognizes the need to work efficiently, making the best use of time and resources<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>WHILE ON CALL<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Performs work as assigned by the <strong>HEAD OF<\/strong> <strong>DEPARTMENT<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that the <strong>HEAD OF DEPARTMENT <\/strong>has adequately explained the task, including method, materials, equipment and safety concerns; asks for clarification when necessary<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that they possess or obtain a complete understanding of the correct and safe use of all tools and equipment; ASKS WHEN IN DOUBT<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Obtains any additional safety information necessary to their work<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that all work is carried out in a safe manner according to departmental safety policies and practice<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Ensures that fellow <strong>CREW MEMBERS <\/strong>use safety equipment at all times; discontinues work which is judged to be unsafe; reports any unsafe condition to the <strong>DEPARTMENT HEAD <\/strong>and a Staff or Faculty supervisor.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Makes no changes to designs without the permission of the <strong>HEAD OF DEPARTMENT<\/strong> or <strong>DESIGNER<\/strong>; reports any changes requested by the <strong>DESIGNER <\/strong>to the <strong>HEAD OF DEPARTMENT.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Makes no changes to borrowed or rented items without the owner's express and written permission; when in doubt, checks with <strong>HEAD OF<\/strong> <strong>DEPARTMENT.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Maintains a clean and safe environment for the duration of the call and leaves the area safe, clean and tidy at the end of each call.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Reports all lost, stolen and broken tools immediately; returns tools and equipment to their proper storage areas.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Performs repair work and maintenance as required by the <strong>HEAD OF<\/strong> <strong>DEPARTMENT.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>GENERAL<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Attends production meetings<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Attends rehearsal as necessary<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Reads daily rehearsal notes<\/li>\r\n \t<li>May be required to crew the production during the technical and dress rehearsal and performance periods<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Maintains a disciplined and focussed attitude during rehearsals and performances<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Is sensitive to high degree of concentration required by actors, dancers, and other technical staff.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Observes rules regarding eating, drinking and smoking on stage and in backstage areas<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Participates in the strike of the production for their area, in consultation with the <strong>HEAD OF DEPARTMENT<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Familiarizes themselves with the strike plan and procedure; ensures that equipment is correctly and safely stored in its proper location<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<strong>AFTER THE PERFORMANCE<\/strong>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Attends and participates in the post-mortem for the production<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Help with any calls for the post-strike, clean up and returns<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p class=\"import-BodyText\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt;\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: Just because the show has closed does not mean the work is done<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"import-BodyText\" style=\"margin-left: 5pt; margin-right: 29.4pt;\">This information is intended as a guideline only.
