Established in September 2003, the Certificate Program later received a Canadian national award for educational excellence and a North American award recognizing innovative online pedagogy. Reg’s contribution to the program reflected his deep commitment to making knowledge about food security accessible, practical, and relevant to people working to create more equitable and sustainable food systems.

Throughout his career, Reg believed deeply that people experiencing poverty and food insecurity must be partners in determining the policies and practices that affect their lives. His commitment to community empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and food security inspired generations of students, colleagues, and practitioners.

We dedicate this book to his memory and to the principles that guided his life’s work.

Acknowledgements

This book is the product of a tremendous collective effort.
