Introduction
Introduction
This is a video-recorded, actor simulation aimed at developing College of Nurses of Ontario Entry-to-Practice (ETP) leadership competencies in a rapidly changing and complex adult acute care setting. The simulation focuses on the new graduate nurse acting in a charge nurse role in managing the staffing and patient care situations. The scenario will evolve through three scenes which will include changing staff availability in addition to a rapidly deteriorating patient.
Learning Outcomes
- Based on the concepts of transformational leadership theory, apply effective communication and decision-making approaches in a simulated charge nurse role.
- Demonstrate conflict resolution strategies to de-escalate difficult interprofessional/intraprofessional situations.
- Formulate a realistic plan [of care] for a deteriorating patient that includes escalating the issues to appropriate members of the interprofessional/intraprofessional team.
- Demonstrate application of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusivity through interactions with healthcare staff, patients and families.
