Imagining this story-world

Thinking about how white settler colonial education was used to and still disrupts intimate and intergenerational familial bonds, we started to speculate about designing a residence that allowed families to travel and live together if a member decided to pursue higher education. This might foster the intergenerational relations around Indigenous, Black, newcomer, international and other students who typically  feel isolated within contemporary student residence arrangements. In turn, this may mitigate the requirements for mental health supports and shift conceptualizations of student life and extracurricular activities. While maps are colonial tools themselves, this future map might be a map of this new style of residence, or a map of family connections that guides the design of these residences and resources.
