Part 4. Advancing Food Security Through Teaching, Research, and Public Engagement

Lastly, Part 4. Advancing Food Security Through Teaching, Research, and Public Engagement highlights the CSFS’s enduring contributions by exploring initiatives that embody its commitment to innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement. The chapters examine the TMU Urban Farm as a model for integrating food production into the built environment through research, education, and sustainable urban design, and the pioneering Certificate in Food Security, the first university-level program of its kind, which has educated practitioners and scholars from around the world for more than two decades. Together, these examples demonstrate how the Centre has translated critical scholarship into practical action, advancing food security through teaching, research, policy, and public engagement. Looking ahead, the Centre remains well positioned to cultivate new generations of scholars and practitioners while continuing to shape more just, resilient, and sustainable food systems in Canada and beyond.
