An Introduction to Open Pedagogy
March 3, 2021
Led by: Michelle Schwartz and Nada Savicevic, Educational Developers, Centre for Excellence in Learning & Teaching
Open pedagogy is about “rethinking the relationship between teachers, students, and knowledge” (DeRosa & Robinson). This experiential learning technique defines the role of the students as that of a creator of knowledge, rather than a consumer. Teachers learn alongside their students, and course content is dynamic, rather than set in stone. Assessments are designed so that student work can be shared outside the classroom, contributing to public knowledge, and, if openly licensed, to be built on by others. Join us to learn more about this learner-driven, experiential, and inclusive pedagogy, and how it can be applied in both the virtual and face-to-face classroom. Bring your course outlines, activities, or assessments so we can discuss how they could be transformed through open teaching principles.
