96 Module 4: Research & LTC

In this module, you will review the Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) Framework related to research based on your previously gained knowledge of research in clinical practice and is applied to NP practice in the LTC setting. You will review NP roles in research including research supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of the NP role, its influence on policy and practice changes and implementation of evidence based practice in LTC.

This module is designed to support in building knowledge around research specific to LTC as well as apply findings and evidence based practice and guidelines to support optimal resident centred care and its related outcomes. Opportunities for research involvement in LTC are also explored including quality improvement plans (QIP) and contributing to research.

This module is offered through asynchronous learning format including self-directed learning, pre and post-test evaluation to support your learning needs.

Learning Objectives

This module will enable nurse practitioners, primary care practitioners and students to:

  1. Review and explore the role of the NP in research and its application to LTC including implementing roles, and models of care and its evaluation.
  2. Describe opportunities for research and examples of implementation of research into LTC practice including but not limited to evidence-based practice and guidelines.
  3. Identify opportunities for research in the LTC setting including the following: Quality improvement plans (QIP);   Contributing to LTC research (qualitative & quantitative); Evaluation of NP practice in LTC; and Performance measurement.
