Benefits of being a preceptor:

  • Share knowledge and experience
  • Influence practice and increase exposure to your setting
  • Stay current on practice, research, and literature
  • Support a teaching and learning culture in your organization
  • Recruit new NPs to your sector

NP preceptors:

  • Act as role models
  • Provide clinical learning experiences
  • Assist students in applying theory to real-life situations
  • Develop advanced practice competencies including clinical practice, research, leadership and consultation/collaboration

Types of preceptorship models:

  • Preceptor-led
  • Student-led
  • Syllabus-led
