Module 4: Research & LTC

101 4.1.2 Contributing to LTC Research

NPs have many roles in research:

  • Critically appraise and apply relevant theory and evidence in providing healthcare services
  • Identify research opportunities and conduct or support research activities
  • Identify and implement research-based innovations for improving resident care
  • Act as a change agent through knowledge translation and exchange
  • As a participant in research studies

NPs play a role in implementing evidence into LTC practice and can reduce the knowledge-practice gap:

  • NPs can accelerate the integration & adoption of interventions, policies & evidence-based practice into standard healthcare practice to improve patient care & outcomes
  • NPs need to be aware that Implementation Science (IS) is characterized by various research designs & methodologies, partnerships & stakeholders
