Module 1: Introduction & Overview of NP Role in LTC

1.1.3 National LTC Standards

Two national standards for LTC were developed through collaboration of the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), Health Standards Organization (HSO) & Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group) and include:

•Delivery of safe, reliable & high-quality LTC care & services
•Design, operation & infection prevention & control practices in LTC homes

The standards provide LTC residents, LTC workforce, leaders & governing bodies guidance to:

•Providing evidence-informed, resident-centred care valuing compassion, respect, dignity, trust & meaningful quality of life
•Team based focus to deliver high-quality care that is culturally safe & trauma-informed to meet residents’ goals, needs & preferences
•Enable a healthy & competent LTC home workforce with healthy & safe working conditions
•Uphold strong governance practices & an outcome-focused culture committed to ongoing learning and quality improvement[1]
