Module 1: Introduction & Overview of NP Role in LTC

1.2.2 NP Practice Conceptual Model

The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) developed a NP Practice Conceptual Model through literature review & consultations[1].  The core of this framework is health, the outcome of practice. Components arising from the core include:

Discipline

  • Foundation of practice including body of knowledge & nursing self-regulation processes
  • Include focus from narrow to broad

Context

  • Practice setting
  • Includes macro to multi-system

Nurse Practitioner

  • Includes novice to expert range

Patient/client

  • Collaborator & recipient of care
  • Includes individual to communities

Inquiry and evidence based practice support the core components.

Society, evidence-based practice & Canadian health care system encompass the entire model.
