1.3.1 Canadian Nurses Association – NP in LTC

NPs in LTC support with timely access to care. NPs are a member of the primary health care team and take on roles that include:

  • Clinician
  • Case manager
  • Coordinator
  • Counsellor
  • Communicator
  • Educator

The benefits of the NP role in LTC include:

  • Prevent unnecessary emergency department (ED) transfers
  • Support positive health outcomes
  • Provide high standard of quality of care
  • Support interprofessional collaboration & communication
  • Cost effective
  • Facilitate NP implementation in LTC
