1.5.1 NP Practice Legislation

NP scopes of practice vary across Canada. Without a pan-Canadian licensure, NP mobility and ability for full scope of practice is impacted.

Some jurisdictions prevent NPs from:

  • Prescribing controlled substances
  • Admitting & discharging from hospital
  • Admitting to LTC
  • Ordering & interpreting diagnostic tests
  • Completing federal and third party forms[1][2]

These barriers must be removed to enable NPs to practice to full scope.
