1.6.4 Leadership

As change agents, APNs seek effective new ways to practice and improve care including:

  • Demonstrate self-awareness, participate in professional development
  • Exhibit behaviour and character aligned with ethical values
  • Evaluate programs in the community & organization & develop innovative approaches to complex issues
  • Apply theories and principles of both project & change management
  • Develop a vision for nursing practice
  • Influence & contribute to organization & health care systems vision & implement approaches to support
  • Identify problems & initiate change to address clinical, organizational or system level challenges
  • Advise clients, community, organizations, policy makers & stakeholders on nursing/health care issues
  • Advocate for APNs to enhance access to health care
  • Promote APN roles through involvement in academic, professional associations & interest groups[1]
