As change agents, APNs seek effective new ways to practice and improve care including:
- Demonstrate self-awareness, participate in professional development
- Exhibit behaviour and character aligned with ethical values
- Evaluate programs in the community & organization & develop innovative approaches to complex issues
- Apply theories and principles of both project & change management
- Develop a vision for nursing practice
- Influence & contribute to organization & health care systems vision & implement approaches to support
- Identify problems & initiate change to address clinical, organizational or system level challenges
- Advise clients, community, organizations, policy makers & stakeholders on nursing/health care issues
- Advocate for APNs to enhance access to health care
- Promote APN roles through involvement in academic, professional associations & interest groups[1]
