1.6.5 Consultation and Collaboration

Consultation & collaboration is achieved by the APN through:

  • Timely and appropriate consultation, referrals and collaboration with other health care providers
  • Provide treatment recommendations in response to consultation requests or referrals
  • Engage clients and other team members in resolving issues at the individual & organizational levels
  • Consult & collaborate with health care team members and stakeholders to develop quality improvement & risk management strategies
  • Work with others to gather & synthesize information on key health determinants
  • Practice collaboratively and build effective coalitions & partnerships
  • Apply theories related to group dynamics, roles & organizations
  • Utilize theory to demonstrate knowledge and skill in communication, negotiation, conflict prevention, management & resolution, coalition building & change management
  • Coordinate interprofessional, intraprofessional & intersectoral teams
  • Identify the contribution of APNs within the health care team and among stakeholders[1]
