1.7.5 Therapeutic Management

Therapeutic management includes the following:

  • Creating an environment for effective communication of diagnostic & therapeutic management
  • Explore therapeutic options using evidence informed practice
  • Determines care options & initiatives therapeutic interventions considering client perspectives, feasibility & best outcomes
  • Initiates interventions to stabilize clients in emergent, urgent & life threatening situations
  • Supports, educations, counsels & coaches clients regarding diagnoses, prognoses & self management including responses to diseases, disorders, conditions, injuries, risk factors & lifestyle changes
  • Promotes self efficacy in health system navigation
  • Coordinates & facilitates care with other HCPs, agencies & community resources
  • Performs procedures for the clinical management and/or prevention of disease, injuries, disorders or conditions
  • Prescribes pharmacotherapy based on health history, disease, disorder, condition & stage of life while considering individual circumstances
  • Applies knowledge of pharmacotherapy & evidence informed practice in prescribing, monitoring & dispensing drugs (legislation & organizational policy permitting for drug dispensing)
  • Counsels on medication therapy, benefits, potential side effects, interactions, importance of compliance & follow up
  • Awareness of marketing strategies used to promote health products, medical devices, medications, alternative therapies & health programs
  • Intervenes when potential/actual substance use and/or misuse of drugs is identified (including complementary & alternative therapies)
  • Prescribes and/or dispenses drugs (in accordance with provincial/territorial and/or federal standards & legislative requirements)
  • Uses an evidence-informed approach in selection/consideration of complementary/alternative therapies considering benefits & risks
  • Collaborates with clients in monitoring therapeutic response & dosing adjustment as needed
  • Monitors , evaluates & revises plan of care & therapeutic intervention based on evidence-informed practice, client goals, preferences, health status & outcomes [1]
