Person-centered language uses:

  • Courteous, non-stigmatizing and inclusive language to highlight the client’s uniqueness
  • It builds trust, improves client-provider relationships, and makes residents feel heard and respected
  • For physical or mental issues, empathy may help individuals understand and communicate their concerns
  • Language sets the tone for the client-provider connection and greatly impacts healthcare

Benefits of Person-Centred Care

  • Active participation in treatment choices are associated with higher care satisfaction and better quality of life
  • Tailored care enhances treatment adherence, reduces complications, and manages chronic diseases effectively
  • Person-centered care fosters trust, resulting in better cooperation and treatment adherence
  • Improved understanding & collaboration between clients health care professionals

  • Open-ended questions
  • Active listening
  • Positive framing
  • Empathy
