Module 4: Research & LTC

100 4.1.1 Evidence-based Practice

The application of evidence-based practice involves:

  • A comprehensive assessment of the patient’s condition
  • Collaboration with participants in prioritizing their problems in selecting and implementing the appropriate intervention
  • Tailoring the intervention based on the best evidence available to meet the patient’s preferences, beliefs, values and social determinants of health.

Evidence-based practice is a complex process influenced by various factors:

  • Characteristics of the research
  • Characteristics of the organization within which the research is being diffused
  • Characteristics of the potential users of the research
  • The process by which the research findings are communicated to the individuals

As a NP, you play a crucial role in this process and your responsibility involves:

  • Understanding and addressing these influencing factors
  • Proactively mitigating potential negative influences
