146 6.2.2 Conflict

Conflict:

  • A process occurring between individuals or groups as they experience negative emotional reactions to perceived disagreements
  • Miscommunication is a common factor in conflicts
  • Is a normal part of working in a large teams
  • Can be an opportunity to drive change and to build relationships
  • Can escalate into open hostility, villainizing the other person, and staff taking sides in the conflict[1]

Conflict escalation stages:

  • Accommodating
  • Problem Solving
  • Personal Antagonism
  • Issue Multiplication
  • Triangulation
  • Open Hostility
  • Change in Social Structure[2][3]
