75 Module 3: Education & LTC

In this module, you will review the Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) Framework related to education and its application to NP practice in the LTC setting. Through the application of previously learned adult teaching and learning principles achieved in your undergraduate education, you will analyze and apply education in your practice including supporting staff, residents and their family/caregivers as well as other learners.

You will further explore the role and scope of the NP, interprofessional team practices, the NP role as an educator, mentorship and preceptorship models as well as common educational opportunities in LTC.

This module is offered through asynchronous learning format including self-directed and reflective learning, videos and pre and post-test evaluation to support your learning needs.

Learning Objectives

This module will enable nurse practitioners, primary care practitioners and students to:

  1. Review the scope and role of the NP in LTC and its relation to education.
  2. Explore and describe interprofessional team practices and apply to educational opportunities.
  3. Define and explain educational opportunities including: Capacity building, coaching & mentoring; Mentorship models; Preceptorship models & orientation; Mandatory training;  Continuing education; Health professional learners; Resident/SDM/caregiver education; and Communities of Practice (CoP).
