In this module, you will identify the role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Long-Term Care (LTC) setting. This includes a review of the background of the NP in LTC, models of practice in LTC, related legislation and review of the Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) framework and NP Core
In this module, you will review the Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) Framework related to leadership and its application to NP practice in the LTC setting. You will apply your knowledge and analyze and critique concepts related to the leadership competency which is essential to LTC practice.
This module is designed to support increasing knowledge through appreciating and understanding the importance of leadership in LTC and its integration to influence and support evidence based practice, health outcomes, system integration and both resident/family/caregiver and provider experience.
This module is offered through asynchronous learning format including self-directed and reflective learning, resident examples, and pre and post-test evaluation to support your learning needs.
Learning Objectives
This module will enable nurse practitioners, primary care practitioners and students to:
- Review and explore the LTC leadership model and the role of NP as a leader including Leadership roles; Clinical practice lead roles; Leading in research, quality improvement & education; Change agent; and Consultation & collaboration.
- Explore leadership opportunities within the LTC setting such as committee and working group participation that often include the following ED diversion; Palliative care; Wound care; Falls prevention; and Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC).
- Discuss the importance and role of leadership related to Ethical practice and Communities of Practice (CoP).
