Introduction to Operable
Principle 2: Operable
User interface components and navigation must be operable.
The Principle Explained
If you follow Principle 1 guidelines, visitors will be able to perceive the content of your website. Principle 2 takes things to the next level: Once visitors can perceive the content, they must be able to act on it. In other words, the content must be operable.
There are four “operable” guidelines:
- Make it possible to perform all tasks with a keyboard in addition to a mouse.
- Give users enough time to perform tasks.
- Avoid information that flashes or flickers — it may trigger seizures.
- Make it possible for users to navigate, find content, and figure out where they are.
