Dr. Fiona Yeudall is an associate professor in Toronto Metโ€™s School of Nutrition and director of the Centre for Studies in Food Security. Yeudallโ€™s extensive work and research experience relating to nutrition and food security in Canada, Malawi, and Uganda combine with an interest in evaluating the effectiveness of food-based interventions and practices, such as urban gardening, in improving food security. In addition to being a registered dietitian, Yeudall holds a PhD (Otago) in human nutrition.

Learning Objectives

Throughout this pressbook, we aim to achieve the following learning objectives:

  1. Gain a deeper understanding of Anti-Black Racism (ABR) in the context of Canadian Dietetics.
  2. Recognize the historical and current factors contributing to racial inequities in dietetic practice.
  3. Examine how ABR impacts health outcomes.
  4. Explore strategies for addressing ABR within the field of nutrition and dietetics.
  5. Explore how ABR is perpetuated in dietetics and how to advocate for equity and inclusion in the profession.
  6. Reflect on personal biases and commit to fostering inclusivity and equity in professional practice.
  7. Analyze case studies and video interviews to contextualize theoretical learning and gain practical insights into addressing ABR.
  8. Explore some of the advocacy work that is underway
