You will find a detailed table of contents when you click the contents button on the left side of this Pressbook. Each chapter and section is listed with clickable links that will take you directly to the desired page.

Search Tool

If you are looking for a specific topic, keyword, or individual, you can use the search tool located at the top right of the page. Simply type your keywords into the search bar to see a list of every page where that topic is discussed.

Interactive Figures & Graphics

Throughout the modules, you will encounter various diagrams, infographics, and images. Figures that feature a small β€œi” icon are fully interactive. Clicking on this icon allows you to enlarge the image for a clearer view or reveals pop-up information containing additional context, definitions, or details.Β  Those without the icon can be enlarged simply by clicking the image.

Videos and Voice Caption

Some chapters include embedded video interviews that provide professional insights and personal stories from Black leaders, community members, activists, and allied professionals across Canada. You can pause, play, and adjust the volume using the controls at the bottom of each video. For accessibility, each video features closed captions.

Interactive Activities

To move beyond traditional text and deepen your learning, a variety of interactive elements are interspersed throughout this Pressbook:

  • Case Studies, Group Assignments & Interactive Branching Scenarios:Β  Analyze real-world scenarios that explore how systemic biases and anti-Black racism manifest in everyday dietitian-client relationships, institutional structures, and healthcare practices.

  • Independent and Group Reflection Activities: Guided prompts, reflection questions and rating scales designed to help you pause, unpack complex concepts, and foster deep personal and professional self-reflection and cultural humility.

  • Test Your Knowledge Quizzes: Brief puzzles, drag and drop, fill in the blank activities are placed throughout chapters to help you review core concepts, historical contexts, and terminology.

Take your time to engage fully with these activities, take breaks to pause and reflect, and consider keeping a journal to write down your thoughts as you progress through the resource.

Educator’s Tools and Tips

To support educators in connecting the concepts and lessons included throughout this Pressbook to coursework and curriculum, a few recommended activities have been added to some of the chapters as opportunities for student exposure and practice in recognizing how anti-Black racism manifests in a variety of settings, along with opportunities to practice responding through community engagement, public health practices, clinical work and even grant writing.
