8 2.1: Racism in Canadian Dietetics

As we embark on this exploration of Anti-Black Racism (ABR) in the context of Canadian dietetics, it’s important to recognize both the progress we’ve made and the significant gaps that remain in our understanding. While research in this area has shed light on the pervasive influence of systemic racism on health outcomes and access to nutrition care, there are still many aspects of ABR that require further investigation. This also means that we all get to be apart of carving the path towards a more inclusive, just and liberating future.

If you conduct a simple online search, you will find that in recent years there has been increased attention to the presence of systemic racism in various fields (i.e. nursing, medicine). Let’s take a look at some of what is being explored within Canadian dietetics…
