Introduction
“Indigenous research data sovereignty is a first principle of research engagement and a foundational component of research for and with Indigenous communities” (Adelson, 2022).
This eBook, Indigenous Data Sovereignty Workshops, is a compilation of the learning from two years of hybrid workshops hosted at Toronto Metropolitan University during 2021 and 2022. In an attempt to be responsive to workshop participant feedback, the workshop transitioned from a more theoretical approach in the 2021 edition to application in 2022. As a result, it highlights Indigenous data sovereignty (IDSov) initiatives and challenges.
Think of this text as a beginning and not an end point. Consider it fertile ground for exploration as you begin, or continue, researching with Indigenous communities. We sincerely welcome you to this important conversation.
