Pre-Workshop Preparation

Educating Young Scholars

Educating Young Scholars

As researchers and educators, we were also keen to use the workshop as an opportunity to educate young scholars. Recognizing the underrepresentation of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) students in academia, we were committed to creating research opportunities that would provide these students with opportunities to learn about Indigenous data sovereignty (IDSov), while developing essential research and communications skills.

As a result, our 2021 and 2022 workshops collectively provided research assistant opportunities to four undergraduate and graduate BIPOC students with experience or interest in Indigenous Data Sovereignty from Toronto Metropolitan University.
