Introduction to Pre-Workshop Preparation

Our 2022 Workshop emerged from the participant feedback that we received from our 2021 Workshop on Indigenous data sovereignty (IDSov) that was held online. It also stems from our continued efforts to engage in constructive conversations with social sciences researchers and stakeholders on issues around the collection, management, and storage of research data in Indigenous community-based research.

Our workshop was organized around the following key issue:

What are the roles and responsibilities of social sciences researchers when working with Indigenous peoples and/or in Indigenous communities?

Our 2022 workshop built on the learnings of the more theoretically-oriented 2021 workshop by highlighting current Indigenous data sovereignty initiatives within the Canadian context as well exploring some of the unique challenges that are inherent to these endeavours.
